Lavenham isn’t just somewhere we cover. It’s home. Akita Air Conditioning & Refrigeration is run from 16 Osier View, so when you book a survey in the village, our team is usually a few minutes’ walk or drive away.

Much of the village is made up of listed, timber-framed houses from its wool-trade heyday, many with lime plaster, exposed beams, uneven walls and little room for pipework. Nearly all of the centre sits within a conservation area. Before we suggest anything, we look at:
Listed building consent is usually needed for external units and new wall openings on a listed building, and Babergh District Council handles applications for Lavenham. Even unlisted homes in the conservation area may need planning permission for some installations. We’ll tell you honestly at the survey what’s likely to be needed and design the installation to give an application the best chance. We advise on consent but don’t prepare or submit applications; you, or your architect or agent, would apply to Babergh.

Often, yes, with the right consents and a careful design. The deciding factors are usually where the outdoor unit can go and how pipework is routed. We’ll look at both at the free survey.
We always aim to avoid that. In most cases there’s a rear or side position that keeps it out of view, but every building is different.
It can be. Older timber-framed homes lose heat differently from modern ones, so we’ll be honest about whether air-to-air, air-to-water or a mix of the two would actually keep you comfortable.
