Home / Domestic air conditioning (installation)

Home air conditioning installation in Suffolk and north Essex

A well-chosen air conditioning system keeps a bedroom cool on a stuffy July night and heats the same room efficiently in February. At Akita Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, our engineers survey and install every home system, from single bedrooms in Sudbury to whole floors of period houses around Lavenham.

Systems we install

Wall-mounted split systems

The most popular choice for one room. A slim indoor unit sits high on the wall and connects to a compact outdoor unit through a small pipe run. Ideal for bedrooms, home offices, garden rooms and living rooms.

Multi-room (multi-split) systems

One outdoor unit serving two or more indoor units, each with its own controls. A tidy option when you want several rooms cooled and heated without a row of outdoor units on the side of the house.

Heating as well as cooling

Every system we fit is an air-to-air heat pump. Switch it to heat mode and it warms the room efficiently, making it a sensible way to reduce reliance on oil, LPG or electric heaters in individual rooms. More on our air source heat pumps page.

We fit systems from Mitsubishi Electric (including the Zen and LN ranges), Daikin, Fujitsu, Midea and Sinsera, and we’ll recommend the right one for your room, budget and how quiet you need it to be.

Rooms we’re often asked about

  • Bedrooms and lofts: top-floor rooms that trap heat in summer. Indoor units run quietly enough to sleep with on.
  • Home offices: steady temperatures for long working days, especially in rooms with computers and lots of glass.
  • Conservatories and garden rooms: spaces that are too hot in summer and too cold in winter.
  • Living rooms and open-plan spaces: larger rooms that need correctly sized capacity, not just the biggest unit available.

Cold. Heat.
Perfected.

What happens on an installation

  1. Free survey. Our engineers measure the room, check walls, access and power, and talk through where the indoor and outdoor units could go. If you’d prefer, we can do a free virtual survey by video call.
  2. Fixed quote. You get a clear written price with the system, pipe run and any extras spelled out.
  3. Installation day. Most single-room installs are finished in a day. We protect floors and furniture, drill a single neat core hole, run the pipework and cabling as discreetly as the building allows, then pressure-test, vacuum and commission the system to the manufacturer’s standards.
  4. Handover. We show you the controls and app, register your warranty and leave the room as we found it.

Older and listed homes

Much of our area is made up of timber-framed, period and listed properties. We take extra care over outdoor unit placement, pipe routes and wall penetrations. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, you may need listed building consent or planning permission before work starts. We’ll flag this at the survey and advise on what’s likely to be needed. We don’t prepare or submit applications ourselves; you, or your architect or agent, would apply to the council.

Cost, VAT and finance

Domestic installations are currently zero-rated for VAT, so the price you see has no VAT added. Single-room systems start from £1,300. The electrical connection is carried out in-house by our own team and is included in the package.

Warranty and aftercare

Every installation comes with our 12-month workmanship warranty. Parts are covered for up to 5 years, provided the system has an annual service (the Comfort Club makes that easy).

Common questions

Is planning permission needed for air conditioning?

Most standard home installations don’t need it, but listed buildings and homes in conservation areas often need consent for external units. We’ll advise at the survey on whether consent is likely to be needed. Applications themselves are made by you or your agent, not by us.

How noisy is it?

Modern indoor units are very quiet, and we position outdoor units to keep noise away from bedrooms and neighbours.

How long does installation take?

Most single-room installations take a day. Multi-room systems take longer, and we’ll give you a clear timeline with your quote.

Can it heat a room as well?

Yes. Air conditioning is a heat pump and heats very efficiently. Many customers use it more in winter than in summer.
