Air conditioning in Hadleigh and the Brett Valley

From our base in Lavenham, Hadleigh is a pleasant 10-mile run down the A1141 through Brent Eleigh and Monks Eleigh, about 20 minutes on a normal day. We cover the whole town and the Brett Valley villages around it, for homes, shops and businesses.

At a glance.

A town of pargeting and timber frames

Hadleigh’s long High Street is one of the finest in Suffolk, with timber-framed houses, decorative pargeted plasterwork and Georgian frontages. Around St Mary’s Church, the Guildhall and the Deanery Tower sits one of the most historic groups of buildings in the county. Most of the town centre lies within a conservation area, and many properties are listed.

That shapes how we approach an installation:

  • Plasterwork and render are precious. Pargeting can’t simply be drilled through, so we look for routes through rear walls, later extensions or internal voids.
  • Back gardens and yards are the natural home for outdoor units, keeping the High Street, Benton Street and Angel Street frontages clear.
  • Consent first, work second. Where listed building consent or planning permission is likely to be needed, we’ll say so at the survey and plan around it. We advise, but we don’t prepare or submit applications; you or your agent would apply to the council.

Cold. Heat.
Perfected.

Beyond the centre

Hadleigh has grown well beyond its medieval core, with post-war, 1970s and newer estates on the edges of town. These homes are usually simple to fit, and many owners start with a single unit in a hot upstairs bedroom or home office. A free virtual survey is often the quickest route. See home air conditioning.

Businesses on Hadleigh’s industrial estate, plus offices, surgeries and shops in town, can talk to us about commercial air conditioning, server room cooling and planned servicing.

Rural homes along the River Brett

The villages of the Brett Valley, such as Kersey, Chelsworth, Bildeston, Nedging, Layham and Lindsey, are full of thatched and timber-framed cottages, many of them off the gas grid. For these homes, heat pumps are worth a serious look:

  • Air-to-air for targeted comfort in the rooms you live in, with cooling as a bonus in summer
  • Air-to-water to replace an oil or LPG boiler. Akita supplies, installs and commissions the heat pump, and our trusted plumbing partner completes the wet side

Hadleigh FAQs

How long does it take you to get to Hadleigh?

About 20 minutes from Lavenham along the A1141.

A cottage in Kersey is thatched. Can it still have air conditioning or a heat pump?

Often, yes. Outdoor unit position, clearance from the thatch, and routing pipework through old walls all need careful thought. We’ll assess it in person.

Is a High Street property likely to be listed?

Many are. You can check the National Heritage List for England, or ask us to look at the survey and we’ll explain what it means for an installation.

Do you service systems in Hadleigh that another company installed?

Yes. We service and repair most makes, for homes and businesses. See servicing.

What does a survey cost?

Nothing. In-person and virtual surveys are both free.
